A venous ultrasound is a painless procedure that examines the veins to search for blood clots, especially in the veins of the leg.
The test takes about 30-45 minutes. The technician will place a gel on the skin of the extremity to be examined and will then place a wand-like sensor on the gel. The area of greatest interest will be the upper thigh near the groin.
